Crimson Tide will split athletes between Alex Wilson Invitational and Tiger Tuneup
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – With the Southeastern Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships just nine days away, a small number of Alabama men's and women's track & field athletes will compete in a pair of meets this weekend on what was originally scheduled as an off week for both teams.
The men's team will send its 4x400-meter relay team to the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame and will also send four athletes to the Tiger Tuneup at Clemson. Terry Jernigan will run in the 60 meters and 200 meters, Ruebin Walters and Angelo Goss will run in the 60-meter hurdles and Will Herrscher will compete in the pole vault.
The women will send five athletes to the Tiger Tuneup. Symone Darius and Takyera Roberson in the 60 meters, Diamond Gause in the 60 meters and 200 meters, Vanessa Clerveaux in the 60 meters and 60-meter hurdles and Lakan Taylor in the pole vault.
The Tiger Tuneup will take place on Friday, Feb. 17. The Alex Wilson Invitational is scheduled for Saturday Feb. 18.
Alabama Sets Two School Records at Tiger Paw Invitational
The Alabama women's 4x400-meter relay team blazed to a school-record time and Daniel Haugh set a school record in the men's weight throw as the Crimson Tide posted 16 efforts that rank in the top-10 in school history on the first day of the Tiger Paw Invitational at Clemson University on Feb. 10-11.
The quartet of Takyera Roberson, Alex Gholston, Diamond Gause and Domonique Williams rolled to a time of 3:30.10, to break the previous UA record of 3:35.37 that had stood since 2007. The time is currently the second-fastest in the country behind Texas A&M, which won Saturday's relay in a time of 3:29.74.
Haugh, who set the school record in the event earlier in the year with a throw of 73-8 1/4 (22.46m), improved on that mark by more than three feet with a winning effort of 73-11 3/4 (22.55m). The Marietta, Ga., native now owns the top nine throws in the event in Alabama history. Four of those marks were posted at the Tiger Paw Invitational.
In the Rankings
The Crimson Tide men are No. 20 and the women moved up eight spots to No. 9 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Indoor National Team Rankings released Feb. 13. Regionally, the Tide men are No. 1 in the South Region while the women are ranked No. 3.

"We had another good weekend last week, so we have to continue to carry that momentum forward. This weekend will be a chance for several of our athletes to get in some additional work at a couple of competitive meets before we turn our full attention to the SEC Championships next week."
