Leah Lawrence Earns AVCA Regional Honors

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama's Leah Lawrence was recognized for her stellar senior season on the court in 2017, earning Honorable Mention All-South Region honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
The honor is the first of Lawrence's career and Alabama's 12th since the All-Region designation started in 2007. Ten of those 12 honorees have come under head coach Ed Allen, with the Tide putting at least one player on the list every year since 2013.
Lawrence started all 32 matches for the Crimson Tide this season, leading the team with 279 kills, a .313 hitting percentage and 123 blocks. In the Nov. 12 match vs. Tennessee, she broke Alabama's career blocks record that had stood for 15 years, ultimately finishing her four-year career with 449. She also ranks second in career block assists (358) and is third in solo blocks (91) and matches played (129).
In addition to her accolades on the court, she was recognized for her performance in the classroom earlier this year, earning CoSIDA Academic All-District honors for the second-straight season.
All-Region honorees are now eligible to earn AVCA All-America accolades, which will be announced later this month. The winners will be honored at the AVCA All-America/Players of the Year Banquet in conjunction with the group's annual convention December 13-17 in Kansas City, Mo.
