TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -Â Members of The University of Alabama Student-Athlete Advisory Committee welcomed local children to Bryant-Denny Stadium Thursday evening for the Athletics Department's and SAAC's annual Project Angel Tree event.
The student-athletes donated money, shopped for and wrapped Christmas gifts for more than 30 children from Alabama, with all the Crimson Tide's teams participating in the outreach project.
"I think Project Angel Tree is really special to our school and it's something that gets all the student-athletes involved," UA swimmer Emma Murray said. "It's so fun to see the kids and when they get their presents, it's really cool – there's nothing like it."
During this year's event the student-athletes and their visitors shared a meal, took part in a variety of holiday inspired activities and took a tour of the Crimson Tide's football stadium.
Thursday's event marked the 26th consecutive year that Alabama Athletics has participated in Project Angel Tree, making it one of the longest tenured groups in the state of Alabama to take part in the project.
The Crimson Tide's involvement in Project Angel Tree is the latest in a series of events and programming designed to fulfill the Crimson Tide Life Skills' mission to provide University of Alabama student-athletes opportunities for growth through personal development and service opportunities. The goal is to empower student-athletes to be difference-makers and people of positive influence as they pursue success at Alabama and beyond.
