It is Holcombe’s second district honor, while Williams earned the recognition in his first year of eligibility
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama linebacker Keith Holcombe and offensive lineman Jonah Williams were voted to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District team, it was announced Thursday.
The honor is the second for Holcombe, while Williams earned the recognition in his first year of eligibility. Alabama football has now tallied 14 CoSIDA All-District honors since 2009.
Holcombe, who carries a 3.61 grade point average in exercise science in his junior season, has tallied 36 tackles and has earned player of the week honors from the UA coaching staff five times this season. The Tuscaloosa, Ala., native has played in 40 games to this point in his Alabama career and totaled 69 tackles over that span.
Williams, who carries a 3.48 GPA in marketing in his sophomore season, was a Freshman All-American in 2016 and earned midseason All-America honors from USA Today and the Associated Press earlier this season. The Folsom, Calif., native has blocked for 17 100-yard rushing games and has started all 25 outings of his UA career.
Holcombe and Williams now advance to the national ballot with a chance to be voted to the Academic All-America Team later this season. Alabama football players have earned Academic All-America honors seven times under head coach Nick Saban, the most notable being Barrett Jones, who was the first four-time honoree in CoSIDA Academic All-America history.
