TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The second game of Alabama baseball's Fall World Series ended in a deadlock at 4-4 on Wednesday evening at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
Gray plated the game's first run for the second consecutive day, scoring one in the bottom of the second. Junior Gene Wood led off the frame with a double to center before advancing to third on a balk. In that same at-bat, senior Cody Henry sent a liner to right, resulting in a throw at the plate, but a great slide by Wood crossed one for the home team.
Things were evened up in the top of the fourth as Crimson crossed its first run. With one down, senior Hunter Alexander drew a walk to put a pair aboard for the visitors and force a pitching change. Following the swap on the mound, a hit-by-pitch to sophomore Connor Stutts loaded the bases before a walk to junior Matt Malkin brought in the tying run to make it a 1-1 contest.
The Gray squad moved back out front in the bottom of the fourth, using three runs to take a 4-1 lead. Henry led off the inning with a double to left-center to force a pitching change before junior Kyle Kaufman delivered a single off the new arm to put runners on the corners. Junior Sam Finnerty followed in the next at-bat with a sacrifice fly to right to push Gray back out front.
One out later, junior Joe Breaux delivered an RBI grounder back up the chute, with both runners advancing into scoring position on the throw. Senior Chandler Avant followed with an RBI-single of his own, scoring Kaufman from third to give Gray a three-run advantage.
The lead was quickly erased, as Crimson answered with three runs to set the score at 4-4. Sophomore Walker McCleney and junior Chandler Taylor each walked before a bobble on an infield grounder from junior Cobie Vance loaded the bases with no outs.
Freshman Sam Praytor delivered in the next at-bat, sending a double to the gap to cross a pair and put two in scoring position. Alexander added one more on his sacrifice fly to left to round out the night's scoring with things knotted up at four.
