The visitor’s built an early deficit that Crimson could not overcome
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Gray squad, captained by senior Cody Henry, took the series opener in the Fall World Series by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
The Gray team was first on the board in Tuesday's contest. Senior Chandler Avant led things off in the first with a walk to start the game before coming around two-outs later on junior Gene Wood's RBI-single to set things at 1-0 after a half inning.
Gray added one more tally in top of the fourth, as sophomore John Trousdale doubled the visitors' lead with a solo shot to right, making it 2-0. Crimson answered with one run of its own in the home half of the fourth thanks to a Cobie Vance roundtripper off the scoreboard in left. The home run from the junior infielder cut the deficit in half, 2-1, after four innings of play, but the home team would come no closer.
Both teams went scoreless across the final two frames, as senior Tyler Adams and freshman Brady Greene finished off the afternoon on the mound for their respective teams.
The Gray squad will go for the series victory tomorrow afternoon. Wednesday's work will begin at 2:30 p.m. CT with a quick practice followed by a 3:30 p.m. first pitch in game No. 2.
