Alabama One Shot off the Lead after One Round at The Landfall Tradition

Stephenson one shot back in second place after opening round 5-under par 67
WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Alabama women's golf team sits in second place, one shot off the lead, after an opening round 10-under par performance Friday in The Landfall Tradition at the par-72, 6,166-yard Pete Dye Course at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C.
Three Crimson Tide golfers finished the round in the top 10, led by junior Lauren Stephenson, who fired a 5-under par 67 and is in second place, one shot behind individual leader Ana Belac of Duke, who shot a tournament record 66 in her opening round.
Sophomore Kristen Gillman (69) is two shots back in a tie for fifth after a bogey-free 3-under par round. Junior Cheyenne Knight carded a 2-under par 70 and is tied for eighth place. Senior Lakareber Abe shot an even-par 72 and is tied for 20th. Freshman Angelica Moresco (75) is 3-over par and tied for 47th.
Senior Nicole Morales is playing as an individual this weekend and is tied for 27th at 1-over par after a first round 73.
Duke (277) tops the leaderboard with a tournament record 11-under par in the first round to lead the Tide (278) by one shot. Michigan State (282) is in third place at 6-under par. South Carolina State (285) is fourth at 3-under par and Purdue (290) is fifth at 2-over par.
The second round of the 54-hole tournament will begin at 7:30 a.m. CT on Saturday. Alabama will be paired with Duke and Michigan State in round two. Moresco will be first off the tee for the Tide at 9:09 a.m. CT, followed by Abe at 9:18 a.m., Knight at 9:27 a.m., Gillman at 9:36 a.m. and Stephenson at 9:45 a.m. Morales will begin her individual round at 9 a.m.
