Abe leads the Crimson Tide with 2-under par opening round on Friday
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Alabama women's golf team sits in third place after an opening round 3-under par performance in the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational at the par-72, 6,379-yard Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Senior Lakareber Abe fired the low round for the Tide on Friday, finishing with a 2-under par 70 to sit in a tie for seventh place after 18 holes. Sophomore Kristen Gillman also turned in a below-par round, shooting 1-under par (71) and will begin play on Saturday tied for 13th. Junior Lauren Stephenson and freshman Angelica Moresco both carded even-par 72s and are tied for 24th. Junior Cheyenne Knight finished at 2-over par (72) and is tied for 41st.
Duke (283) tops the leaderboard at 5-under par, followed by South Carolina (284) in second place at 4-under par, Alabama (285) in third place at 3-under par, North Carolina State (286) in fourth place at 2-under par and Arkansas (288) in fifth place at even par.
The second round of the 54-hole tournament will begin at 9:10 a.m. CT on Sunday. Alabama will be paired with Duke and South Carolina in round two. Knight will be first off the tee for the Tide at 9:39 a.m. CT, followed by Moresco at 9:48 a.m., Stephenson at 9:57 a.m., Gillman at 10:06 a.m. and Abe at 10:15 a.m.
