Tuscaloosa is certainly a special place to visit, and even more so when we get to welcome back alumni for the annual Homecoming festivities. 1992 National Championship Team Reunites this Weekend
Members of the 1992 football team will gather on campus this weekend to celebrate 25 years since winning their national title. In addition to a Friday night reception, we will recognize all of those in attendance at the game against Arkansas. Be sure to pick up a game program at the Nick Saban Radio Show tonight or at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday, which features a story on the 92 squad.
Emma Talley Earns LPGA Tour Card
Congratulations to former Tide standout Emma Talley, who earned her LPGA tour card after finishing ninth on the Symetra Tour earnings list in 2017. It is such a great feeling when you see former student-athletes go on to be successful in life after college. We are so proud of Emma's accomplishments and look forward to watching her continued success.
Less than Two Weeks from Tide Tipoff
Hard to believe, but basketball season is just around the corner! We will, once again, welcome in the new year on the hardwood with the SupeStore Tide Tipoff, which is scheduled for Tuesday, October 24 in Coleman Coliseum. I hope you will join us for what is sure to be an exciting evening of Alabama hoops! Doors open at 6 p.m. for autographs, and the event will follow at 7 p.m. See you there!
Construction Update: New Dining Hall
If you have driven by the athletics area on Bryant Drive, you have probably noticed lots of construction on the north side of the Mal Moore Athletics Facility. We are so excited about the addition of a new dining hall and look forward to the day we are able to open its doors. Take a guided tour of what is to come for Alabama student-athletes and hear from both Amy Bragg, our director of sports nutrition, and Kevin Murray, executive performance chef.
Women's Basketball Surprises Former Walk-on with Scholarship
I don't know about you, but I will never get tired of seeing the reaction on a student-athlete's face when he or she is surprised with a scholarship. Last week, on the first day of official practice, women's basketball head coach Kristy Curry devised a plan, without telling anyone else on the team, that she was going to be putting junior Taylor Berry on scholarship. If you haven't seen it, take a look at how it all unfolded. Definitely worth a watch!
Student-Athlete Enhancement Update
Our Student-Athlete Enhancement initiative, through our Life Skills program, hosted the Regions Financial Workout recently. The Regions Workout is a great, interactive workshop that taught our student-athletes the keys to fiscal health. That knowledge is crucial in building a happy and healthy future in today's world. Life Skills also coordinated our second Habitat for Humanity project of the fall last weekend, with several teams taking part in the two-day enterprise. It's great to see our student-athletes continue to make a difference in the community.
University Spotlight
Four MBA students in the Manderson Graduate School of Business at The University of Alabama Culverhouse College of Commerce recently took home the top prize at this year's National Black MBA Association/FCA US National Graduate Student Case Competition. The team of Liz Alley, Jessika Banks, Bryonna Rivera Burrows and Myles Ward beat out 41 other teams from some of the nation's top business schools to earn $25,000 in scholarships. Congratulations!
