Fitzpatrick Selected as Bednarik, Nagurski Player of the Week

Defensive awards are Fitzpatrick’s second and third of the week
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama junior defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick was selected as the Chuck Bednarik Award Defensive Player of the Week, the Maxwell Football Club announced on Tuesday afternoon. Fitzpatrick was also selected as the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week, as chosen by the Football Writers Association of America. The Old Bridge, N.J., native earned the accolades for his standout effort in the Crimson Tide's 27-19 win at Texas A&M last Saturday.
Fitzpatrick once again stood out on the Alabama defense, making plays all over the field. Slotting in at a four different positions throughout the evening in College Station, he accounted for five tackles, including three for a loss, while adding a forced fumble, one pass breakup and his first interception of the 2017 season. Fitzpatrick also recovered an onside kick late in the game to help secure the victory for the top-ranked Crimson Tide.
Alabama's defense put together another impressive performance against a formidable Southeastern Conference foe. The Tide held the Aggies to only 308 yards of total offense, 140 yards below their season average, and just 19 points, the lowest in any game for Texas A&M this season.
The defensive awards are Fitzpatrick's second and third of the week, as he was also recognized as the SEC's Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday morning.
