Alabama Track & Field Teams Travel to Clemson for Bob Pollock Invitational

Friday-Saturday meet will feature a strong field of Atlantic Coast Conference teams
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama track and field teams will travel to Clemson, S.C. this weekend to compete in the Bob Pollock Invitational Jan. 27-28 at the Clemson University Indoor Complex. The meet will get underway on Friday with multi-events at 10:30 a.m. ET. Field and running events begin at 3 p.m. Saturday's schedule has the multi-events beginning at 9 a.m. ET, followed by field events at 11 a.m. and running events at noon. Other teams in the field include Clemson, Florida State, Duke, North Carolina State, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, UCF, Troy, North Carolina A&T and Johnson C. Smith.
Alabama Men and Women Capture Team Titles at Auburn Invitational
Jereem Richards raced to a national-leading time in men's 200 meters and Stacey Destin posted a national mark in the women's high jump to lead the Alabama track & field teams to victories at the Auburn Invitational at the Birmingham CrossPlex on Jan. 21.
The 17th-ranked Alabama men scored 127.4 points on the day to outdistance second-place Auburn (112). No. 3 LSU (104.5) and No. 21 Ohio State (82) rounded out the scoring.
The women's team chase went down to the final event of the day, as the Tide clinched the crown with a second-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay in a time (3:36.54) that is the second-best in school history. The 22nd-ranked Alabama women finished with 150 points. No. 7 LSU was second with 145. Ohio State (101) and Auburn (89) finished third and fourth.
Richards Earns SEC Runner of the Week Honors for 200 Meter Performance
Jereem Richards was named the Southeastern Conference Men's Co-Runner of the Week, the league office announced on Jan. 24. Richards blazed to a time of 20.57 to easily outdistance the field in the 200 meters at the Auburn Invitational at the Birmingham CrossPlex on Jan. 21. The time is not only the fastest in the nation but currently stands as the fastest time in the world so far in 2017 according to the latest International Association of Athletics Federations' (IAAF) world list. Richards' time is also the second-fastest indoor 200 meter effort in Alabama history, trailing only the 20.32 run by Diondre Batson at the 2014 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.

The Crimson Tide men jumped 10 spots to seventh and the women remained at 22nd in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Indoor National Team Rankings released Jan. 23.

Alabama will be off next week and will return to action the weekend of Feb. 10-11 when the Tide distance runners compete in the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa and the remainder of the team returns to Clemson for the Tiger Paw Invitational.
