TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama men's and women's swimming and diving teams both earned recognition as College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Teams it was announced this week.
Both the Crimson Tide men and women tallied better than a 3.5 team grade point average in the fall, well over the 3.31 average of CSCAA's fall award winners, which requires a 3.0 team GPA.
"Our mission is to fully commit to the pursuit of excellence in the pool, the classroom and in life, and I am very proud of our swimmers and divers for their accomplishments in all three of these areas," UA head coach Dennis Pursley said. "We are also grateful for the efforts our academic counselors who work tirelessly to ensure that our athletes are provided with the support they need to be the best that they can be in the classroom."
The Tide ranked fifth among all Division I men's teams, and was the only team finish in the top-10 at the 2016 NCAA Championships and among the top 10 by team GPA after posting a 3.5 this fall. The UA men also turned in the highest team GPA in the Southeastern Conference this fall, with the next SEC school, Georgia, coming at No. 25 by GPA on the national list.
Alabama was 20th among all Division I women's programs with a 3.55 GPA, which also ranked the Tide second among SEC schools and fifth among schools that scored at the 2016 NCAA Championships.
Alabama finished its regular-season last weekend with back-to-back sweeps of Georgia Tech and Florida State and returns to action February 14-18 in Knoxville, Tenn., for the SEC Championships.
