Alabama Men’s Tennis Begins 2017 Spring Schedule with Doubleheader

Crimson Tide set to take on East Tennessee State and Samford at 1 p.m. CT and 6 p.m. CT, respectively
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama men's tennis officially opens the 2017 season with a doubleheader on Monday, Jan. 16, when it hosts East Tennessee State and Samford at 1 p.m. CT and 6 p.m. CT, respectively, at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility.
Freshman Thibault Cancel player buttons and fat heads will be given away during the match, as well as posters, magnets and shakers.
The Crimson Tide's doubles pair in sophomores Mazen Osama and Spencer Richey enter the 2017 spring season nationally ranked No. 32 in doubles play, while Osama and freshman Thibault Cancel begin the season ranked No. 63 and No. 78 in singles play, respectively, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced.
Alabama welcomed five newcomers to its roster in senior Ritchie Kruunenberg and freshmen Thibault Cancel, Alexey Nesterov, Edison Ortiz and Zhe Zhou. Kruunenberg tallied four singles wins in the fall, while posting a 6-2 mark in doubles play. Cancel registered a 6-2 singles mark in the fall, and he picked up three wins in doubles. Nesterov collected three wins in singles in the fall, while recording an impressive 5-2 mark in doubles. Ortiz and Zhou just arrived to campus, and both have yet to compete for the Tide.
