The women’s team recorded a brilliant 3.9 team GPA in the fall, topping Alabama’s athletic department
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's tennis team had a championship-caliber performance in the classroom for the 2016 fall semester, recording a 3.9 team GPA, the best team GPA among the Crimson Tide's 17 athletics programs.
"I'm proud of our team for their impressive fall semester in the classroom," said head coach Jenny Mainz. "Their commitment to excellence in earning a cumulative 3.9 grade point average is outstanding. Our girls are proud to wear the Alabama 'A' and they are dedicated to serving as great ambassadors on the tennis court and in the academic arena."
Three players earned a 4.0 grade point average and were named to the President's List in the fall, including senior Danielle Spielmann, sophomore Andie Daniell and freshman Maddie Pothoff.
The Tide also had three additional student-athletes named to the Dean's List (3.5 or better GPA), including senior Erin Routliffe, junior Smith Hinton and freshman Juliana Valero.
Additionally, the team's impressive 3.9 GPA is the highest mark set by any team under Mainz in her 20 seasons at Alabama.
The Tide officially opens the 2017 season with a double-header on Sunday, Jan. 15, against in-state foes UAB and Alabama State at 10 a.m. CT and 4 p.m. CT, respectively, at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility.
