TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's tennis team will begin its 2016 fall schedule Sept. 23 –25 when it travels to Houston, Texas, to compete in the Rice Invitational. The three day event features 16 different teams including Alabama, Rice, SMU, TCU, Texas State, UTSA, UTA, Denver, Auburn, Southern Miss, Tulane, Northwestern State, Texas, McNeese State, Sam Houston State and Houston.
"We are looking to play some different opponents out of region and to get a good look of some other teams," said Alabama head coach Jenny Mainz. "We will see some really good competition in Texas A&M, Rice, Texas State, SMU, TCU, Baylor, Texas Tech and Auburn. I think if we get some quality matches under our belt, gain some confidence, get some momentum and really define the things we need to work on, so we can go back to the drawing board and practice. Then we can improve and get ready for some bigger tournaments later this fall. That's our main objective."
Friday's schedule consists of one doubles and one singles match, while Saturday will feature two doubles matches and one singles. The tournament concludes on Sunday with the final round of singles. Match play begins each day at 8:30 a.m. CT.
Representing the Crimson Tide will be seniors Joanna Savva and Danielle Spielmann, junior Smith Hinton and freshmen Maddie Pothoff and Juliana Valero.
