Alabama Men’s Golf in 10th After Day One of Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational

Davis Riley in tie for fourth overall through 18 holes
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Sophomore Davis Riley carded a 2-under par 68 and is in a tie for fourth overall to lead the No. 16 Alabama men's golf team in the opening round of the Olympia Fields Country Club/Fighting Illini Invitational on Friday. As a team, the Crimson Tide is in a three-way tie for 10th with a 16-over par 296.
Tournament host and third-ranked Illinois leads the 15-team field at 6-under par 274, six strokes ahead of second place Texas A&M (280). Oklahoma State, ranked No. 4 in the nation, is in third at 7-over 287, followed by Purdue (291) and No. 24 Baylor (293) who round out the top five, respectively. The Crimson Tide, along with Indiana and Southern California, is in a three way tie for 10th at 296, just three strokes out of fifth place.
Riley was a steady presence throughout the day, as he recorded four birdies and two bogeys at the famed par-70, 7,205-yard Olympia Field Country Club North Course. Riley collected his 11th career round in the 60s and second this season. The Hattiesburg, Miss., native will enter Saturday's second round three strokes back of co-leaders Cameron Champ of Texas A&M and Bryan Baumgarten of Illinois.
Juniors Lee Hodges, Tyler Hitchner and Steven Setterstrom are in a tie for 49th overall at 2-over par 76, while redshirt freshman Josh Sedeno rounds out the Tide in 60th place at 7-over par 77.
Alabama will tee of the second round at 8:45 a.m. CT on Hole No. 10 and will be paired alongside Arizona State and Texas A&M.
