Amari Cooper starts the 2016 season with a career performance
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – This past weekend marked the opening weekend of the 2016 season in the National Football League. Below is a look at some of the highlights from last week by former Crimson Tide players currently in the NFL.
Wide receiver Amari Cooper opened the 2016 season in record fashion, hauling in six passes for a career-high 137 yards in the Oakland Raiders' 35-34 victory over the New Orleans Saints. Cooper's 137 receiving yards was the fourth-highest total in the league during week one.
Fellow wideout Julio Jones had a strong outing for the Atlanta Falcons, catching four passes for 66 yards and one touchdown in the team's 31-24 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Kareem Jackson helped lead the Houston Texans' defense to a 23-14 win over the Chicago Bears, finishing with five tackles, including one for a loss. Jackson also added one pass breakup from his starting corner position.
A pair of former Crimson Tide teammates played a large part in the Green Bay Packers' 27-23 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Running back Eddie Lacy ran for 61 yards on 14 carries and hauled in a 17-yard pass while safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix notched five stops, broke up a pass and forced a fumble by day's end.
Defensive lineman Jarran Reed made an immediate impact in his NFL debut as the Seattle Seahawks defeated the Miami Dolphins, 12-10. Reed finished with two tackles and two pass breakups while anchoring the middle of a Seattle defense that held the Dolphins to just 64 yards rushing.
