BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama junior midfielder Chatham DeProspo was named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week after registering a first half hat-trick in the Crimson Tide's 5-1 decisive victory over the Tennessee Volunteers, the league office announce Monday.
DeProspo, a native of Goshen, N.Y., scored on each of her shot attempts in the SEC opener vs. Tennessee. The three goals surpassed her season total of two from last year, and she is the first Alabama player to record a hat-trick since September 21, 2014, when Annalike Steyn collected three goals in a match against Alabama State.
In large part to DeProspo's heroics, Alabama claimed its first SEC road opener victory since the 2014 season, when Alabama defeated Tennessee in a 1-0 decision that went into double-overtime. Alabama's win over Tennessee was also significant in the fact that it marks the largest margin of victory over an SEC opponent in program history.
The talented junior has played a vital role in Alabama's 6-1 start, which is the best start to a campaign since the 2005 season. She is also the first Alabama soccer player to earn weekly conference accolades since the 2014 season, when goalkeeper Emily Rusk was recognized by the league office.
The Tide will be back in action on Tuesday when it travels down the road to Birmingham, Ala., to take on the Samford Bulldogs at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium at 7 p.m. CT. With a win on Tuesday, the Alabama will improve to an overall 7-1 record marking the best start since the 2002 campaign.
