
Alabama Swimmers Post Top-20 Finishes on Day Two of U.S. Olympic Trials

OMAHA - Alabama swimmers posted nine swims on day two of the United States Olympic Team Trials in Omaha, Neb., led by top-20 finishes by Luke Kaliszak and Bridget Blood.
Kaliszak, who was part of the Crimson Tide's NCAA Champion 200 medley relay this past collegiate season, tied for 18th in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 55.43. Because 18th is the second alternate in the semifinals, the tie was broken with a swim-off, which Kaliszak won with a 54.58.
Crews Wellford (45th – 56.20), Connor Oslin (117th – 57.32) and Jacob Kelsoe (122nd – 57.36) also swam in the prelims of the 100m backstroke. In total, 183 swimmers competed in the prelims of the men's 100m backstroke.
Blood turned in a 1:08.85 in the 100-meter breaststroke, taking 20th place overall. Katie Kelsoe, sister of Jacob, finished 127th in the women's 100m backstroke after touching the wall with a 1:04.28.
Alabama posted three swims in the top 100 of the men's 200-meter freestyle led by Matthew Adams' 1:51.68, which was 58th. Alex Gray took 85th after swimming a 1:52.89 while Knox Auerbach was 98th with a 1:53.83.
The Crimson Tide has four swims lined up for Tuesday. Taylor Charles and Will Freeman in the 200-meter butterfly, Mia Nonnenberg in the 200-meter individual medley and Temarie Tomley in the 200-meter freestyle.
