Alabama rowing added five student-athletes during the spring signing period that will join the team for the 2016-17 season. Over the coming days, we will be posting individual profiles on rolltide.com for each member of the class. Our second profile is on Hunter James from Cary, N.C.
Hunter James comes to the Capstone from Cary, N.C., where she attended Green Hope High School and competed with Triangle Rowing Club. There, she was named a varsity captain in 2015 and 2016 after already serving as a novice captain in 2013. She earned the club's Hammer Award for the fastest 2000-meter erg time in 2013 and 2015. Off the water, James excelled academically and was accepted into the Engineering STEM Path to MBA Program.
"Hunter is a very intelligent young lady," head coach Larry Davis said. "She is strong academically and we are looking forward to developing her as a student-athlete. She has great raw potential and we are excited to have someone who is great as an athlete and in the classroom."
James will be joining the program with a familiar face already on her team as her older sister, Samantha, is a freshman on this year's team. Hunter plans to pursue a degree in Computer Science with a music minor at when she arrives at the University of Alabama next fall.
