Alabama rowing added five student-athletes during the spring signing period that will join the team for the 2016-17 season. Over the coming days, we will be posting individual profiles on rolltide.com for each member of the class. Our first profile is on Elle Anderson from Winter Park, FL.
Elle Anderson attends Trinity Preparatory School in Winter Park, Fla., and rows with the North Orlando Rowing Club. With North Orlando Rowing, her WV4+ boat earned a silver medal at the 2015 FRSA Sweep State Championship. She began rowing at the age of 14 and honed in on the sport after an injury cut her cross country and track career short. During her freshmen year of high school, she turned to coxing at the suggestion of her older sister Emily, who rowed as a freshman at Boston College.
"I was impressed by her tapes," Alabama assistant coach Meghan Patrick said. "Elle has clear, intense coxing calls. She's a real racer."
"Elle has great potential as a Division I coxswain," head coach Larry Davis said. "She has looked very impressive. She has a very clear motivational voice and based on her experience she is a great racer. It's important for the coxswain to motivate the athletes and make the calls when they need to make them and keep them focused."
Anderson plans to pursue a degree in psychology when she arrives at the University of Alabama next fall. Her mother, Nicole, and her uncle, Matthew Banker, are both Alabama graduates.
