Alabama rowing added five student-athletes during the spring signing period that will join the team for the 2016-17 season. Over the coming days, we will be posting individual profiles on rolltide.com for each member of the class. Our third profile is on Sophia Yurosek from Clyde Hill, Wash.
Sophia Yurosek hails from Clyde Hill, Wash., where she attended Bellevue High School and competed with the Seattle Rowing Center starting in September of her senior year.
"Sophia is a young athlete who comes from a great rowing background in the Seattle area," head coach Larry Davis said. "She has shown in the early stages that she has great potential. She has shown fantastic results even in her first year. She is a high-energy personality that should develop into a great boat-mover."
Her rowing coach, Conal Groom, is an Olympian and nine-time USA National Team member. In addition to rowing, Yurosek is also an accomplished volleyball player, voted MVP of both her high school and club teams. She comes from an athletic background, as her mother Kellie was a collegiate volleyball player at Colorado State and her father Derek played football at Colorado State as well.
Upon arriving in Tuscaloosa, Yurosek plans on majoring in business. In her spare time, she enjoys playing piano and loves photography.
