Alabama Rowing Sweeps SMU, Celebrates Senior Day

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama rowing concluded its home schedule Saturday morning on the Black River with a three-race sweep of the SMU Mustangs.
"Anytime that you can go out, be successful and sweep a regatta, that is a great thing from a coaching standpoint" UA head coach Larry Davis said. "This is also a good way for us to prepare as we go into the conference championships."
The First Varsity 8+ boat recorded the fastest time of the day, finishing with a 6:49.7. All three of Alabama's Second Varsity 8+ boats crossed the line in under eight minutes, finishing with times of 7:03.6, 7:04.2, and 7:12.1, respectively. Alabama also finished in under eight minutes in the Varsity 4+, finishing in 7:41.8.
Following the races, the Crimson Tide celebrated the careers of its 15 seniors at their final home regatta at Alabama.
"I think that it is a great way to send the seniors off," Davis said. "They have certainly done their job to become a better team, and we are proud of them."
The 2015-16 seniors include Joyce Auguste (Jacksonville, Fla.), Abigail Palmer (Zelienople, Penn), Katie Chambers (Orlando, Fla.), Rachel Palmer (Houston, Texas), Madeleine Evans (San Jose, Calif.), Jacklin Byers (Lorton, Va.), Ali Smith (Flower Mound, Texas), Tori Cohen (Tallahassee, Fla.), Nyia Owen (Orlando Fla), Erin Delaney (Albany, N.Y.), Rachel Henderson (Ashland, Mass.), Miller Tuohy (Newton, Mass), Olivia Dennis (Odesa, Fla.), Courtney Atkinson (San Clemente, Calif.) and Kendall Scullion (Novati, Calif.).
Up next, Alabama returns to Oak Ridge, Tenn., for the Big 12 Championships on May 14-15. The conference champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
