TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Graduate transfer Arthur Edwards has been named to the Southeastern Conference's Community Service team, the league office announced on Friday.
In his lone year in Tuscaloosa, Edwards has made a large impact by volunteering his time within the community. The Washington, D.C. native has built a house with Habitat for Humanity, visited patients and staff at the VA Medical Center and spoken at local elementary schools about the importance of staying in school.
Over the Christmas holidays, he worked with Project Angel Tree in Tuscaloosa, spending time with children whose parents are incarcerated. He also visited a local soup kitchen and shelter in December.
The annual award handed out from the league office recognizes the accomplishments of student-athletes beyond the field of competition.
This marks the 18th year for the SEC Community Service Team in both men's and women's basketball. All 21 league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004, with at-large teams for men's and women's sports being chosen from 1999-2003. The SEC began this concept with a football Community Service Team in 1994.
