GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Alabama track & field teams took part in two events on Thursday at the Pepsi Florida Relays, held at the James G. Pressly Stadium at Percy Beard Track in Gainesville, Fla. Three women's distance runners competed in the 5,000 meters while a pair of men's throwers competed in the javelin.
Running the 5,000 meters at an outdoor collegiate meet for the first time in her career, freshman Kaitlin York crossed the finish line in a time of 17:48.40. Just behind her was redshirt junior Kendall Howen, who recorded a time of 17:55.33. Sophomore Alison Ringle (18:10.49) rounded out the event for the Crimson Tide.
In the men's javelin, redshirt freshman Will Edwards and senior Kevin Shannon struggled in all three rounds of the event. Edwards did not record a distance after failing to reach the 55-meter mark on each of his three throws while Shannon came up short once and fouled on his other two attempts.
Friday's action begins at 11 a.m. CT with the women's discus and hammer throw events. The women's 100-meter hurdles and men's 100 meters kick off the running events at 11:15 a.m. CT. SEC Network+ will be streaming live from the Florida Relays from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. CT via ESPN3.
