Crimson Tide Women’s Basketball Hosts Kansas as Part of SEC/Big 12 Challenge on Sunday

Opening tip set for 11 a.m. CT on the SEC Network
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's basketball team (6-0) will be back in action on Sunday when it welcomes the Kansas Jayhawks (3-3) to town for the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. Game time is set for 11 a.m. CT in Coleman Coliseum.

OPENING TIP
- Sunday's game is one of 10 contests in the 2016 SEC/Big 12 Challenge. The Challenge was created in 2014 with two games at a neutral site. The 2016 event is the first to feature 10 games at campus sites with each conference hosting five games a year, ensuring fans can participate in creating a dynamic home atmosphere.
- Alabama is playing in the final game of its seven-game homestand Sunday when it hosts Kansas. This is the longest home stretch to start a season in program history.
- The Tide is led in scoring by junior Meoshonti Knight, who is averaging 13.3 points per game. Sophomore Shaquera Wade paces Alabama in rebounding with 7.0 boards per contest, while freshman Jordan Lewis continues to be the team's leader in assists at 3.7 per outing.
- Alabama has four student-athletes averaging double-figure points thus far. Joining junior Meoshonti Knight (13.3 ppg) is sophomore Shaquera Wade (12.8 ppg), junior Hannah Cook (11.5 ppg) and freshman Jordan Lewis (10.8 ppg). Juniors Quanetria Bolton and Ashley Williams are just outside with 9.2 ppg each.
- The Tide is currently outscoring its opponents by 42.2 points per game (84.8-42.7) and outrebounding the opposition by an average of 17.3 boards per contest (50.2-32.8).
- Alabama is 6-0 for the second consecutive season under head coach Kristy Curry. The Tide won its first six games last season before picking up its first loss at UT-Martin on Dec. 2, 2015.
CURRY COACHING IN GAME No. 100 AT ALABAMA
- Sunday's game against Kansas will be head coach Kristy Curry's 100th game on the sidelines at Alabama.
ALABAMA GOES UNDEFEATED IN NOVEMBER FOR SECOND STRAIGHT SEASON
- Alabama closed out its first month of the 2016-17 with a perfect 5-0 record, marking the second straight season the Crimson Tide has gone undefeated in November. In 2015, Alabama posted a 6-0 mark, which was the best start since the 2002 season.
LIMITING POINTS
- Alabama has held its opponents to 15 points or fewer in 21 of 24 quarters played this season. Even more impressive is that in 11 of those 24 quarters the Tide opposition has put up 10 points or fewer and in four quarters five points or fewer.
TIDE GETS BOOST FROM BENCH
- Alabama has one of the most productive benches its had in the last several years, and that has been evident in both minutes and production on the stat sheet. Through six games, the Tide's reserves have accounted for 166 points (27.7 ppg), 99 rebounds (16.5 rpg), 27 assists (4.5 apg), 21 blocks (3.5 bpg) and 15 steals (2.5 spg).
SIX GAMES … SIX DIFFERENT LEADING SCORERS
- Head Coach Kristy Curry has multiple options when it comes to scoring this season. Through six games, Alabama has had six different leading scorers. In the opener, junior Meoshonti Knight led the way with 18 points. Freshman Jordan Lewis put up 21 in the Tide's second game, while junior Hannah Cook posted 13 to pace Alabama offensively in game No. 3. Junior Ashley Williams scored 19 in the win over Georgia Southern and sophomore Shaquera Wade chipped in a career-best 22 to lead the Tide over Alabama A&M. Last time out, junior Quanetria Bolton and Knight each added 18 points.
FIRST HALF DOMINATION
- Alabama has scored 256 points in the first half of games this season, while its opponents have put up only 104. That averages out to 42.7 points at the half for the Tide compared to 17.3 for the opposition, a difference of 25.4 points.
BALANCED OFFENSE
- One of Coach Curry's team goals for the season is to have at least four in double-figure points each outing. The Crimson Tide reached that goal in four of its six games this season as five recorded 10 or more points three times and four did so on one occasion. Alabama was just shy in its games against Georgia Southern, as three finished in double figures and one had eight, and Alcorn State where three had double figures and two had nine points.
ALABAMA DOMINATING POINTS IN THE PAINT
- Through six games, Alabama has outscored its opponents 278-84 in points in the paint. That averages out to 32.3 more points in the paint (46.3-14.0) for the Crimson Tide per game than the opposition.
CRIMSON TIDE RANKED IN THE TOP 10 NATIONALLY/TOP 3 IN THE SEC IN EIGHT CATEGORIES
Through games played on Dec. 1, Alabama ranks in the top 10 nationally and the top three in the Southeastern Conference in eight different categories including scoring defense, scoring margin, field goal percentage defense, three-point field goal defense, rebounds per game, defensive rebounds per game, rebound margin and personal fouls per game.
ABOUT KANSAS
- After starting the season 0-2, Kansas has won three of its last four games, including one in overtime (North Dakota, 76-71) and one in double overtime (Oral Roberts, 64-56).
- Last time out, the Jayhawks dropped a 69-49 decision at Creighton to put Kansas at 1-1 in road games in 2016.
- The Jayhawks are led in scoring by redshirt sophomore McKenzie Calvert, who averages 15.7 points per game. Junior Chayla Cheadle averages a team-best 6.0 rebounds per contest, while redshirt junior Jessica Washington dishes out a team-high 3.0 assists per game.
- As a team, Kansas is averaging 64.0 points per game while allowing 69.3 points to its opponents. The Jayhawks average 40.2 rebounds, 13.3 assists, 17.8 turnovers, 10.8 steals and 4.5 blocks per contest.
- Kansas is under the direction of second-year head coach Brandon Schneider. Prior to taking over in Lawrence, he coached for five seasons at Stephen F. Austin, where the Ladyjacks won back-to-back league titles in 2014 and 2015. Schneider also spent 12 seasons at Emporia State, where he won the NCAA Division II National Championship in 2010.
