Alabama Men’s Basketball Falls to Texas Longhorns, 77-68

Dazon Ingram and Avery Johnson Jr. led the Crimson Tide offense with 12 and 10 points, respectively
AUSTIN, Texas – The Alabama men's basketball team lost a 77-68 decision to the Texas Longhorns on Friday night at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas. The Crimson Tide led by 12 points at the half, but a 15-5 run by the Longhorns over the final 3:59 sealed the Texas victory.
The opening half was all Alabama, as the Tide opened the game on a 10-2 run, including a pair of three-pointers from senior Corban Collins to force a Texas timeout with 16:28 on the clock. Alabama continued to shoot the ball efficiently, as it made an impressive seven of its first 10 shots.
Texas was able to trim the Tide's lead to three points at 25-22, but Alabama responded with a 7-0 run to stretch the lead back out to 10 points at 32-22, forcing another Texas timeout with 4:46 left in the half. Going into halftime, the Tide held a 38-26 advantage.
Alabama shot an impressive 48 percent from the field in the first half, while shooting 38 percent from beyond the arc.
The second half was a different story, as Texas opened the final 20 minutes on a 7-0 run to get back in the game. The Longhorns continued to chip away at the Alabama lead, and Texas went on to take their first lead of the game at 45-44 with 12:47 left to play.
It was back and forth from there as the game saw five ties and seven lead changes the rest of the way. After a Donta Hall free throw gave Alabama a 63-62 lead with 3:59 remaining, Texas' Jacob Young gathered a loose ball off a blocked shot and drilled a three-pointer. That shot kick-started the game-ending 15-5 Longhorns' run to result in the final score.
Alabama was led by redshirt freshman Dazon Ingram, who had a team-leading 12 points and six assists to go along with six rebounds and a pair of steals. Sophomore Avery Johnson Jr. added 10 points off the bench. Freshman Braxton Key collected nine points and a team-best seven rebounds, while Donta Hall chipped in with five points, five rebounds and four blocks.
Texas' Kerwin Roach Jr. scored a game-high 16 points, including hitting 12-of-16 free throws.
The Longhorns outrebounded the Tide, 35-27, and went 22-of-30 from the foul line compared to 10-of-18 for UA. Alabama's bench outscored its counterparts, 33-19, marking the sixth consecutive game it has accomplished that feat.
The Tide will be back in action on Sunday, Dec. 11, when it travel to Eugene, Ore., to take on the Oregon Ducks in a game that is set to broadcast on ESPNU at 5 p.m. CT (3 p.m. PT).
