Alabama Swimming and Diving Closes Out 2016 with Training Camp/Diving Invite

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - While the Alabama swimmers were in Boca Raton, Fla., for a week-long end of the year training camp following the end of exams, the Crimson Tide divers trained in Tuscaloosa for a few days before using a trip to the Auburn Diving Invitational Dec. 17-19Â as a chance to train and compete at the same time.
Senior Brent Sagert posted a third place finish off the platform, totaling 328.80 points. Sagert also posted the top Crimson Tide finish off the 3-meter springboard, taking third in the consolation finals with 259.60 points, and off the 1-meter board, taking eighth after posting 305.05 points in prelims and 291.15 in finals.
On the women's side of the slate, senior Taylor Zablocki was fifth off the 1-meter springboard, earning 265.90 points in prelims before scoring 276.70 points in finals. Junior Margy McCarthy posted Alabama's top finish off the 3-meter board, scoring 260.20 points in finals, taking fourth place in the consolation finals. Senior Kara Fredlock was sixth off the platform after tallying 219.50 points over the course of five dives.
The Crimson Tide's diving corps returns to action Jan. 3-5 at the Tennessee Diving Invitational. The UA women – swimmer and divers – open up the New Year at Tulane on Jan. 6 in New Orleans. The men and women, swimmers and divers, open 2017 at LSU on Jan. 7.
