Alabama Women’s Tennis Completes Day One of Seminole All-Conference Showdown

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Alabama women's tennis team posted a 6-0 and 3-1 mark in doubles and singles play, respectively, on the first day of the Seminole All-Conference Showdown at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla. The Crimson Tide has three doubles teams that will compete for championships tomorrow in their respective draws, and all three singles wins came in straight sets.
Senior Danielle Spielmann and freshman Maddie Pothoff topped USF's Vanja Klaric and Nicole Dzenga, 8-3, before going on to dominate Simran Sethi and Malene Stripp of Oklahoma in an 8-2 decision. Spielmann and Pothoff will square off against Clemson's Ayan Broomfield and Marie-Alexandre Leduc in the championship match of the Scott Speichei doubles bracket.
Junior Smith Hinton partnered up with UCF's Elizabeth Bagerbaseh in doubles play to collect two wins to advance to the championship match of the Renegade/Osci doubles bracket. Hinton and Bagerbaseh defeated Christina Brigante and Ann Selim of Oklahoma, 8-5, and the pair went on to top FSU's Nandini Das and Andrea Garcia in an 8-2 decision. Hinton will see familiar faces tomorrow, as she will take on her teammates, senior Joanna Savva and freshman Juliana Valero, for the championship match.
Savva and Valero defeated Christina Zordani and Maria Avgerinos of Wisconsin in an 8-2 decision, and the duo went on to top UCF's Natalia Serrano and Emilia Granstrom, 8-3.
The Tide carried the momentum over from doubles into singles play, as it tallied three wins with each coming in straight sets. Hinton defeated USF's Nicole Dzenga, 6-1, 6-2, while Spielmann defeated USF's Vera Bessonova in a 7-5, 6-3 decision. Valero picked up with Tide's final singles win, as she dominated Elizabeth Bagerbasch of UCF in a 6-3, 6-0 decision.
There will be one round of doubles tomorrow that is set to begin at 9 a.m. CT, followed by two rounds of singles play.
