TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama volleyball signed two student-athletes to national letters of intent during the early signing period, as Christine Jarmon and Meghan Neelon will join the Crimson Tide for the 2017 season.
Jarmon is a 6'0" outside hitter from Boca Raton, Fla. She led Boca Raton High School to a 9A state title in 2016 along with district titles in 2013 and 2015. She was named the team MVP in 2015 after missing the entire 2014 season with an ACL injury and earned 2015 player of the year honors from the Palm Beach Post and Ft. Lauderdale Sun Sentinel. Playing club volleyball with Ocean Breeze Volleyball, she was a team captain and six-rotation player for a team that qualified for the USA Volleyball Junior Olympic Nationals open division five-straight years, including a fifth-place national finish in 2012. She was also a 2015 National AAU Junior Olympic 16U beach volleyball champion and was selected to the USA Volleyball Beach High Performance team.
"Christine is an athletic six-rotation outside hitter that has a chance to be one of the best L2s we've had at Alabama," UA head coach Ed Allen said. "She has a competitive spirit combined with a terrific skill-set and work ethic that will serve her well at the Division-1 level."
Neelon, a 5'9" setter, hails from Clarence, N.Y. and was recently named to the 2016 AVCA Under Armour All-American team. Playing prep volleyball at Clarence High School, she helped guide the team from the bottom of its league her freshman season to the state tournament in her junior year, where the team posted a top-four finish in its first ever trip to the state tournament. Neelon was named first team all-state, first team all-WNY and first team ECIC that season. With Club Niagra Frontier volleyball club, she won a 2014 national title and was named the Girls Junior National Championship MVP. She was the top-ranked setter in each of the last three years at the USA Volleyball High Performance women's Continental team.
"Meagahn has a high volleyball IQ and a work ethic that is second to none," Allen said. "Her competitive spirit will allow her to really run a team. One of her best assets is to drive and manage a team. She's a very athletic player that plays with a lot of heart and determination."
