Alabama’s Andie Daniell Advances to Second Round of Singles Main Draw at Nashville Women’s $25K Pro Tennis Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –Alabama women's tennis sophomore Andie Daniell defeated Julia Elbaba of the U.S. in a match that was decided in three frames, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, to advance to the second round of the singles main draw of the Nashville Women's $25k Pro Tennis Classic. Daniell will take on Francesca Di Lorenzo of the U.S. tomorrow, and the match time is still to be determined.
"There was a lot of adversity I had to deal with today," said Daniell. "I did a good job focusing on what I can control. I competed well and figured out what I needed to do to be successful."
Daniell took down a quality opponent in the first round of the main draw, as Elbaba finished the 2015-16 season at Virginia nationally ranked No. 13 in singles play.
Elbaba took the first set by a 6-3 decision to earn a 1-0 match advantage. Daniell bounced back to tie the match score at 1-1, as she won the second frame, 6-4. With the match coming down to the final set, Daniell put her focus on display as she topped Elbaba, 6-4, to clinch the match victory.
