TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama football team practiced in full pads for two hours at the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields on Tuesday afternoon in preparation for this weekend's rivalry game with No. 16 Auburn.
The Crimson Tide will be faced with the task of stopping a Tiger rushing attack that ranks atop the SEC with an average of 297.8 yards per game. Not to be overlooked is Auburn's stout defensive front, which ranks third in the conference in rush defense. The annual Iron Bowl contest between the two in-state rivals is scheduled for a 2:39 p.m. CT kickoff at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The game will air live on CBS with the trio of Verne Lundquist, Gary Danielson and Allie LaForce calling the action.
Alabama and Auburn will square off for the 81st Iron Bowl matchup on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The Crimson Tide holds a 44-35-1 advantage in a series that dates back to 1893. Alabama has had the upper hand in recent meetings, claiming six of the last eight matchups with four of those wins leading to a Crimson Tide national championship, including a 29-13 victory in Auburn last season.
Earlier in the day, The Foundation for Teamwork selected the Alabama offensive line unit as one of 18 Semi-Finalists for the 2016 Joe Moore Award. The award annually recognizes the nation's Most Outstanding Offensive Line Unit that best displays toughness, effort, teamwork, consistency, technique, and "finishing". Last season, Alabama won the inaugural Joe Moore Award after clearing the way for Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry's school-record 2,219 rushing yards.
