Alabama Swimming and Diving Notches Relay Wins and a School Record on Georgia Tech Invitational Day One

ATLANTA, Ga. – Alabama swimming and diving notched three relay wins and came away with a new school record in the women's 50 freestyle on day one of the Georgia Tech Invitational, being held in the McAuley Aquatic Center on the Georgia Tech campus.
Crimson Tide junior Bailey Scott earned Alabama women's first individual win of the invitational with Alabama's first new school record of the 2016-17 season when she touched the wall at 22.50 to win the 50 freestyle, shaving four-hundredths of a second off the record she previously set in 2015. Junior Temarie Tomley also went under 23 seconds in the 50, taking fourth place with a 22.76.
The Tide men won the 200 freestyle relay with a 1:17.20, nine-hundredth of a second ahead of a Florida squad led by Olympic gold medalist Caleb Dressel. Freshman Zane Waddell led things off with a career-best time of 19.55, which ranks him sixth all-time at Alabama. Sophomore Robert Howard, junior Luke Kaliszak and sophomore Laurent Bams brought home the win with splits all under 19.5.
Seniors Connor Oslin and Pavel Romanov along with Kaliszak and Bams combined to stop the clock at 3:07.74 to win the 400 medley relay by more than two seconds over the Florida Gators.
The women's 400 medley relay of sophomore Katie Kelsoe, senior Bridget Blood, junior Hannah Musser and Scott posted a 3:36.50 to win by less than two tenths of a second over Auburn.
Howard also took second in the 50 freestyle behind Dressel, with a career-best 22.60, which ranks him eighth all-time at Alabama. Waddell was third, Bams fourth and Kaliszak sixth, all with times under 20 seconds. Junior Christopher Reid and Oslin also finished in the top 10 of the 50 freestyle in Atlanta.
Reid finished with a 1:46.77 in the 200 individual medley taking fifth place while freshman Daniel Kober led the way for the Tide in the 500 freestyle, taking fifth place with a time of 4:23.29. Senior Brent Sagert scored 330.15 points in the finals of the men's 1-meter diving competition, taking fifth place overall.
The women's 200 freestyle relay of junior Temarie Tomley, sophomore Morgan Fleming, freshman Lexi Souther and Scott combined for a time of 1:30.54, taking third overall.
Junior Mia Nonnenberg took third in the 200 individual medley, clocking a 1:59.72 while senior Taylor Zablocki was fifth in the women's 3-meter diving event with a final's score of 295.85.
Alabama returns to action on Friday at 9 a.m. CT with prelims of the 400 individual medley, the 100 butterfly, the 200 freestyle, the 100 breaststroke and the 100 backstroke.
