- With Monday's game, the Crimson Tide will have faced the Devilettes in each of the last three seasons.
ABOUT ALABAMA
- Alabama is playing its second of three home games in a week's span. The Tide opened the season on Friday, Nov. 11, against New Orleans and will close out the stretch with a game against Lipscomb on Thursday, Nov. 17.
- Alabama won its season opener, 78-57, over New Orleans on Friday. The Crimson Tide has now won eight consecutive home openers.
- Five finished in double figures for Alabama, led by junior Meoshonti Knight, who had 18 points to go along with five steals, four rebounds and four assists. She was joined in double-digit points by sophomore Shaquera Wade (16), freshmen Ashley Knight (12) and Jordan Lewis (11) and junior Ashley Williams (10).
- In addition to her 11 points, freshman point guard Jordan Lewis collected a game-high eight rebounds, four assists and four steals. She also made the start in her first regular-season contest for the Tide.
ABOUT MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE
- Mississippi Valley State returns two of its top performers from a year ago in seniors Ashley Beals and Christina Reed. Beals started in 21 of the 26 games she played in and averaged 15.5 points and 7.5 rebounds. Reed, who played in 20 games and made 19 starts, led the Devilettes in scoring with an average of 16.5 points per game in addition to 6.9 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.9 assists per contest.
- Mississippi Valley State returns only two from its roster a season ago (Beals and Reed) and welcomes 10 newcomers to its lineup.
- In addition to having several new student-athletes, the Devilettes also have a new head coach in Jessica Kern. Kern, who was a two-year captain and All-Big 10 performer for the Nittany Lions, was most recently an assistant coach at Furman. Before Furman, Kern was the head women's basketball coach at Lincoln University (PA), taking over a program in 2011 that had won just three games the previous season. In her first season at the helm, she coached the Lady Lions to seven victories, 10 triumphs the following year, and to a 12-16 season in 2013-14 before posting a 22-9 mark her final season.
BALANCED OFFENSE
- One of Coach Curry's team goals for the season is to have at least four in double-figure points each outing.
- The Crimson Tide surpassed that goal in its season opener as five recorded 10 or more points in the victory.
- Junior Meoshonti Knight led the team with 18. She was followed by sophomore Shaquera Wade (16), freshmen Ashley Knight (12) and Jordan Lewis (11) and junior Ashley Williams (10).
FAB FROSH
- Alabama's freshmen, Ashley Knight and Jordan Lewis, have made an immediate impact in the Tide's lineup.
- Lewis, who started at point guard in the opener, nearly had a double-double in her debut, finishing with 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals in 32 minutes of play.
- Knight, the 6-5 post player, went 5-for-6 from the floor for 12 points. She also had seven rebounds and a block in 25 minutes off the bench.
#CATCHUSATCOLEMAN
- On May 31, Alabama women's basketball announced it would be returning to Coleman Coliseum starting with the 2016-17 season.
- The women's basketball team split time between Foster Auditorium and Coleman Coliseum from 1974-81, until permanently moving to Coleman from 1981-2011.
- The Crimson Tide reopened Foster with its game against Florida on Feb. 13, 2011, following an extensive renovation of the building.
- Since then, women's basketball has played all but four of its home games, which includes two season-opening doubleheaders with men's basketball and a pair of 5th Grade Fastbreak games, at Foster Auditorium.
