Alabama Women’s Tennis Concludes Day Two of 2016 ITA Southern Regional Championships

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's tennis team collected three wins in singles and double play in second day of the play in the 2016 ITA Southern Regional Championships at the Alabama Tennis Stadium on Saturday. The four-day event is set to run through Monday, and there are 18 different schools that pare featured in the tournament.
Alabama's No. 34 nationally ranked doubles duo in senior Erin Routliffe and sophomore Andie Daniell registered two wins on the day to advance to the semi-finals of the doubles main draw (A). Routliffe and Daniell topped Brooke Stevens and Arianne Hartono of Ole Miss, 8-5, before the pair went on to overcome Louisiana Monroe's Petra Horakova and Stefana Andrei in an 8-4 decision. The Tide's third doubles victory came from senior Danielle Spielmann and junior Smith Hinton, as the couple outlasted Ryann Foster and Skylar Hollow of LSU, 8-6.
In singles play, the Tide's 18 ranked player Routliffe outlasted Taylor Russo of Auburn 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, to advance to the quarter-finals. Spielmann went on to defeat Mississippi State's Anastasia Rentouli, 6-7(7), 7-5, 6-4. Spielmann and Routliffe will square off in the quarterfinals on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. CT.
Senior Joanna Savva registered the Tide's final singles victory of the day, as she topped Savannah Wood of Samford in a 6-2, 7-5 decision in the singles consolation draw (A).
Sunday's doubles matches are set to start at 9:00 a.m., while the singles matches are set to begin at 11:00 a.m. CT.
