Alabama Cross Country Teams Host Crimson Classic Oct. 13-14

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Crimson Tide will host the Crimson Classic, its lone home meet of the 2016 season, on Oct. 13-14 at the Harry Pritchett Running Park in Tuscaloosa. The meet will feature high school varsity and junior varsity races on Thursday, Oct. 13, beginning at 3 p.m. CT. The college races on Friday will include a number of top teams from around the region competing in an 8,000-meter men's race and a 6,000-meter women's race. The Friday men's race will begin at 9 a.m. CT with the women's race scheduled to follow at 9:45 a.m.
SEC teams scheduled to compete include Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss and Tennessee in both the men's & women's races. Mississippi State and Vanderbilt will compete in the men's race and South Carolina will compete in the women's race. Other teams in the field include Florida State, Georgia Tech, Houston, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Rice (men), Samford, South Alabama, Southern Miss (women), Troy and UAB (women).
29 Runners Set to Compete in Crimson Classic
The Crimson Tide will run 29 student-athletes - nine men and 20 women - in the Crimson Classic on Friday. Competing for the men's squad will be seniors Robbie Farnham-Rose, Antibahs Kosgei, Evan Prizy and Conner Thompson; juniors Andrew Bull, Garrett Bull and Josh Short, sophomore Clay Austell and freshman James Brinyark. The Alabama women will run senior Hannah Waggoner; juniors Caroline Barlow, Emily Edwards, Jessica Gray, Veronica Lyle and Alison Ringle; sophomores Calli Coggins, Nicole Gardner,, Brianna Koshy, Sarah Mohan, Rachael Reddy and Kaitlin York; and freshmen Caroline Brooks, Rebecca Buteau, Hannah Capek, Alexa Cruz, Elisabeth Danis, Brittany Tolson, Haley Wright and McKenzie Yanek.

"We've had a good start to the season and we are looking forward to coming home to run in front of our fans, friends and family this weekend at the Crimson Classic. We have a number of seniors running in their last home meet and I know they will want to put on a strong performance in their final appearance in Tuscaloosa."
In the Rankings
The Crimson Tide men's and women's teams are No. 5 in their respective U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) South Region rankings released Oct. 4. The next ranking will be released Oct. 17.
Kosgei Tops SEC Men's 5K and Four-Mile Lists
Alabama's Antibahs Kosgei has the top 5K time of any SEC men's runner so far this season. Kosgei finished fourth at the Chattanooga Powerade Invitational in a time of 14:57.13. Kosgei also holds the top four-mile time in the conference with his 19:11.13 performance at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic on Sept. 3. Kosgei is also No. 3 on the five-mile list with a time of 23:53.40, set at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational on Sept. 30.
