TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama football team put in two more hours of work in full pads on Wednesday afternoon outdoors on the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields.
The team continued to work on its game plan to counter the Tennessee offense, one of the Southeastern Conference's top-ranked units both on the ground and through the air. The annual "Third Saturday in October" matchup between the Crimson Tide and Volunteers is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. CT kickoff at Neyland Stadium and will air live on CBS. Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson will work from the booth, while Allie LaForce focuses on the sidelines.
Alabama and Tennessee will meet for the 99th time in a rivalry series that dates back to the 1901 season. Alabama holds the all-time series advantage, 52-38-7 (53-37-8 actual), and has won the last nine matchups between the two squads. The Tide has also won four consecutive meetings in Knoxville, outscoring the Vols 148-52 over that span. Most recently, Alabama defeated Tennessee, 19-14, at Bryant-Denny Stadium a season ago.
Earlier on Wednesday, quarterback Jalen Hurts and tight end O.J. Howard were named to midseason watch lists for prestigious postseason awards. Hurts, a Channelview, Texas native, was selected as a member of the 2016 Manning Award Watch List, which annually honors the nation's top signal-caller. Howard, a Prattville, Ala. native, was placed on the 2016 John Mackey Award Midseason Watch List, annually given to the top tight end in the country.
The Alabama offensive line also received consideration for postseason awards on Wednesday as the unit was placed on the midseason Joe Moore Award Honor Roll. Last season, the Crimson Tide offensive line won the inaugural Joe Moore Award as the nation's top offensive line.
