Alabama Athletics' Career and Leadership Development Center Hosts Career Fair

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - On Tuesday night, the Susan & Gaylon McCollough A-Club Career and Leadership Development Center put on a career fair in the North Zone of Bryant-Denny Stadium, bringing together more than 100 junior and senior student-athletes together with more than 25 of the top regional and national employers, such as NIKE, Coca-Cola, Regions Financial Group, Aflac, Target and the United States Marine Corps, the event's presenter.
"It's just really good to have a lot of people here so that we can really broaden our view on what we want to do and meet a lot of people and make a lot of good connections, so it's a really good networking opportunity," junior softball player Chandler Dare said.
The event promoted a connection between junior and senior student-athletes and employers from a wide range of industries, nurturing opportunities for professional internships or employment for our student-athletes.
"The main reason I came to the career fair tonight is just to network with people and talk to the recruiters and just kind of see what they're looking at, what stands out to them on a resume or when they talk to prospects like us," senior men's basketball player Retin Obasohan said.
It was an excellent opportunity for employers to meet our best and brightest and learn about the wide ranging skillsets they have nurtured here at the Capstone, the types of skills that are so valuable to organizational success.
"Our coaches do a great job of putting the student part first and making sure that we have everything we need in order to be successful after our sport," senior gymnast Lauren Beers said. "I think Alabama does a great job - especially with the career development program that we have now - of helping us prepare ourselves for real life after we're done competing."
The Susan & Gaylon McCollough A-Club Career and Leadership Development Center was dedicated during the 2013-14 academic year. Located on the second floor of the Bill Battle Academic Center, the center is a place where Alabama student-athletes can hone the skills necessary to take the next step in their lives. The suite was named for Alabama football letterman Gaylon McCollough and his wife Susan. McCollough was a center on the Tide's 1964 National Championship team and an Academic All-America in the classroom who was named All-SEC on the field before being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys.
