TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Tournaments in Puerto Rico and Hawaii, as well as hosting the 2015 Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate and the 2016 NCAA Regional, highlight the Alabama men's golf 2015-16 schedule, which head coach Jay Seawell announced on Friday.
"I am excited about this year's schedule and it should be a great challenge for our guys," Alabama head coach Jay Seawell said. "We made this schedule with the intent of challenging our team while also playing some terrific venues. In addition, we are not only hosting the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, but we are also the host team of an NCAA Regional, which will be played on our home course (Ol' Colony Golf Course). I am excited, the team is excited and we are looking forward to getting things started next month."
The Crimson Tide begins the fall season with three tournaments in the month of September. Alabama starts the season at an event it has won three times, the Carpet Capital Collegiate, on Sept. 11-13, which is held at The Farm Golf Club in Dalton, Ga. The Tide will then travel to Olympia Fields Country Club just outside of Chicago to compete in the Olympia Fields Fighting Illini Invitational on Sept. 18-20. Alabama will close out the month of September at the DICK's Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup, hosted by Tennessee, in Nashville, Tenn. on Sept. 25-27.
The lone event for the Tide in the month of October will be the annual Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, which will be held Oct. 5-6 at Old Overton in Birmingham, Ala. This marks the 30th year of the prestigious tournament and will feature some of the top teams in the nation. Alabama has won the event seven of the last nine years.
The Tide will then close out the fall season Nov. 2-4 when they travel to Kauai, Hawaii to compete in the 2015 Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational.
To start off the spring campaign, Alabama will participate in a familiar tournament, the Puerto Rico Classic, held at the Rio Mar Country Club, in Rio Mar Beach, Puerto Rico on Feb. 21-23. Alabama has won the tournament five times in program history.
The Tide will then make its return to the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters, in Las Vegas, Nev., on March 7-9 for the fifth straight year. Two-time Ben Hogan Award finalist, Robbie Shelton, was a medalist in the tournament last year. After that, Alabama will travel Greensboro, Ga., on March 20-22 when they compete in the Linger Longer Invitational.
The Tide is slated to close out the regular season when it makes a third straight appearance in the Mason Rudolph Championship, hosted by Vanderbilt and the Commodores head Coach Scott Limbaugh, a former Alabama assistant coach. The tournament is April 2-3, in Nashville, Tenn.
Postseason play begins April 16-18 with the SEC Championship held in St. Simons Island, Ga., at the Sea Island Golf Club Seaside Course. Alabama will then host the NCAA Regional on May 16-18 at Ol' Colony Golf Course in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The golf season will conclude May 27-June 1 for the NCAA Championships, held in Eugene, Ore., at the Eugene Country Club.
