TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama is one of five SEC teams to appear in the preseason Top 25 poll, released Wednesday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). The Crimson Tide earned 24 points in the poll, placing nine spots outside the top 25.
Alabama finished last season receiving votes in the top 25 after making its first ever appearance in the poll during week five. The Crimson Tide return every starter from last season's team that set a new school record with 26 wins, including a five-set win in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against Samford, the first tournament win in program history.
Defending conference champion Florida is the highest ranked SEC team at No. 4 while Kentucky is the second highest at No. 15. Texas A&M received 84 points in the poll to place five spots outside the Top 25 while LSU's eight points place them six spots behind Alabama.
Alabama opens its 2015 season on Friday, Aug. 28 against Long Beach State at the LBSU/CSUF Baden Invitational in Long Beach, Calif. On Saturday the Tide will play Cal State Fullerton before making a short trip to Malibu to face Pepperdine later that night at the Pepperdine Asics Classic.
