Track and Field Duo Earns Academic All-District Honors

TUSCALOOSA, Ala -
The Alabama Crimson Tide placed two women on the 2015 Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District IV Track & Field/Cross Country Team it was announced this week. Senior Nia Barnes and junior Katelyn Greenleaf both earned places on the district team and will move forward to the All-America ballot.
"Nia and Katelyn are the epitome of what we look for in a student-athlete," UA head coach Dan Waters said. "They both work extremely hard every day to make the most of their abilities both on the track and in the classroom. I'm very proud that they've been recognized in this way."
A 2014 Academic All-American, Barnes owns a 4.0 cumulative grade point average while studying telecommunications and film/media production. The West Orange, N.J., native has already posted a personal best of 66 feet and one inch in the weight throw this season and was a 2014 All-American in the hammer throw and a member of coaches' association All-Academic squad.
Barnes has been inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta, Kappa Tau Alpha and Phi Eta Sigma honor societies. She also earned the 2015 Telecommunication and Film Senior Academic Achievement Award.
Greenleaf owns a 4.0 cumulative GPA while pursuing a degree in nutrition. A member of the 2014 coaches' association All-Academic team, the St. Petersburg, Fla., native has already posted a school record of 10:14.91 in the 3000m steeplechase this season. A three-year member of the All-South Region cross country team, she is also a two-time member of the All-SEC cross country squad and an SEC All-Freshman competitor in 2013.Â
