TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The Alabama Crimson Tide beat the Washington Huskies 9-0 in five innings Saturday, to advance to Sunday's 2015 NCAA Softball Tuscaloosa Regional championship game. Washington will play again at 4 p.m. in Saturday's second elimination game.
The Crimson Tide was up 5-0 in the top of the fourth inning when Marissa Runyon launched a grand slam home run to put the game away for good at 9-0, shortening it to five innings with the run rule. It was Runyon's 18th home run of the season and third grand slam. The Tide also got home runs from Haylie McCleney and Danae Hays, with both sending the ball out of the yard in the second inning.
Alex Osorio picked up the win for Alabama, pushing her record to 18-7 on the season, while Kirstyn Thomas took the loss for the Huskies, falling to 3-2.
Alabama returns to action Sunday at 12 p.m. against the winner of Saturday's third game. Washington will play in that third game against the winner of Saturday's second game between Fairfield and USC Upstate.
