Women's Tennis Falls to Vanderbilt, 4-0

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The Alabama women's tennis team was defeated by the Vanderbilt Commodores in the quarterfinal round of the 2015 Southeastern Conference Tournament by a final score of 4-0 on Friday afternoon at the Carolina Tennis Center in Columbia, South Carolina. Alabama dropped the doubles point for just the fourth time this season to begin the match, and lost three consecutive singles matches resulting in the team's first shutout loss of the season. The No. 13 Crimson Tide are currently 17-7, including an 8-6 record against conference opponents.
Vanderbilt burst out of the gate, claiming the doubles point with victories on courts two and three. No. 16 Ashleigh Antal and Astra Sharma were first to finish for the Commodores, registering an 8-1 victory over Natalia Maynetto and Emily Zabor on court two. The point was secured on court three, as Vanderbilt's Maria Casares/Frances Altick took an 8-4 decision over Danielle Spielmann and Luicelena Perez.
The Commodores carried their momentum into singles, handing the Tide its first shutout loss of the season with three quick victories. Sharma grabbed the first win for her team, defeating Spielmann 6-0, 6-0 on court two. Altick extended the lead to 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-3 win on court three, before Courtney Colton clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory on court four.
