Women's Tennis Knocks Off Arkansas, 5-2

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The No. 11 Alabama women's tennis team defeated the visiting Arkansas Razorbacks by a final score of 5-2 on Friday night at the Alabama Tennis Stadium. Alabama jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, and clinched the match 4-1 before surrendering the second point to the Razorbacks. With the victory, Alabama improves to 15-6 on the season, including a 7-5 record against conference opponents. The loss drops the Razorbacks to 15-13, 3-9 in the SEC.
The Tide cruised to its 18th doubles victory of the season, picking up a pair of victories on courts two and three to gain an early 1-0 advantage. Danielle Spielmann and Luicelena Perez were first to finish for Alabama, securing an 8-3 win on court three to move to 10-1 on the season. Emily Zabor and Natalia Maynetto claimed the point for the Tide with an 8-5 victory on court two. No. 2 Erin Routliffe and Maya Jansen were engaged in a 7-7 tiebreaker on court one when the point was clinched.
Arkansas took the first match of singles play -- a 6-1, 6-2 victory on court four -- but Alabama would go on to win three consecutive points to clinch the match. Jansen got the momentum back in the Tide's favor with a 6-3, 6-4 victory on court three, just before Spielmann locked down a 6-2, 6-2 decision on court two to make the score 3-1 in favor of Alabama. Clinching the match for the Tide was senior Luice Perez who earned a 6-3, 7-5 victory on court six.
The two teams would play the match to conclusion, exchanging a pair of matches on courts one and five. Arkansas' No. 68 Yuliya Lysa took down Routliffe 6-4, 6-3 on court one, while Emily Zabor earned the Tide's fifth point with a 6-1, 6-3 win on court five.
The Tide will wrap up its regular season on Sunday when it host the Missouri Tigers at 1:00 p.m. CT at the Alabama Tennis Stadium. The women's tennis program will honor its two seniors, Emily Zabor and Luice Perez, as part of the Senior Day festivities.
