FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The men's tennis team nearly completed the comeback, but came up just shy, falling 4-3 at Arkansas on Thursday. The Crimson Tide trailed 3-0 before evening the match at 3-3, however the Razorbacks collected the final point for the team victory.
Alabama (8-9, 0-2 SEC) got the first win of the day with No. 26 Becker O'Shaughnessey and Korey Lovett topping Santiago Munoz and Branch Terrell, 6-3, on court one, but Arkansas (11-5, 1-1 SEC) would take the early 1-0 edge after claiming the doubles point with wins on the other two courts. At the No. 3 matchup, the Razorbacks' Johan den Toom and William Albanese earned a 6-3 victory of their own over Danny Kerznerman and Nikko Madregallejo, leaving the point down to the matchup on court two where Jovan Parlic and Giammarco Micolani prevailed against the Tide's Sean Donohue and Stuart Kenyon, 7-6(4).
Arkansas carried momentum into singles early, winning five of the first six sets, and eventually the first two points on courts five and six to hold a 3-0 lead. Alabama didn't shy away from its deficit, however, and battled its way back to even the match at 3-3 with victories on courts two, three and four. O'Shaughnessey overcame a first set loss at the No. 3 spot to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 over den Toom to get the Tide on the board, which was followed by another comeback win with Madregallejo capturing a 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory on court four over Albanese. The tying point came on court two where Kerznerman beat Parlic, 6-4, 6-3, leaving the deciding point up to the matchup on court one. Arkansas' Micolani and Alabama's Lovett traded 6-3 wins in the first two sets and Micolani pulled ahead early in the third before Lovett came back to even the set at 3-3.
