Leading up to the Alabama Women's Tennis Alumni Reunion Weekend - scheduled for March 6-8 - RollTide.com will feature prominent players/teams of the past that each made a mark on the program's storied history. Today, a quick glance at one of the earliest NCAA tournament teams in Bama history!
The 2001 Alabama women's tennis team (pictured above with head coach Jenny Mainz and assistant Keith Swindoll) earned the program's third trip to the NCAA Championships. The team traveled to Durham, N.C., where it would go on to knock off BYU by a final score of 4-2 in the opening round. The first round victory marked just the second NCAA tournament win in the history of the program. The Crimson Tide was knocked off by Duke, 4-0, in the second round.
Emmanuelle Berard also competed in the NCAA Singles Championships during the 2001 campaign. Look for plenty of members from this memorable squad at this year's reunion!
The 2015 reunion will be held March 6-8 and will include plenty of opportunities to integrate Alabama tennis - past and present. A "Cocktails at the Courts" reception will be hosted at the UA Tennis Stadium on Friday prior to the team's match vs. Georgia that night. Another "Hit Around" mixer will be hosted at noon on Saturday, before the team/alumni will be given a tour of Bryant-Denny Stadium. An alumni dinner in the south end zone with the Crimson Racket Club will follow. On Sunday, a "Bama Brunch" will be hosted in the Team Lounge at the UA Courts ahead of the team's match vs. Tennessee.
