HOOVER, Ala. - The Alabama baseball team held it's yearly "Fan Day" this Saturday inside Hoover Metropolitan Stadium. The day was full of activities for fans and concluded with a nine-inning scrimmage to close out the team's final Saturday scrimmaging in Hoover.
The morning began at 10 a.m. with a free kid's clinic that welcomed more than 100 children. Those in attendance went through drills with the Alabama coaches and players, teaching the campers about the fundamentals of hitting, pitching, fielding and baserunning.
Crimson Tide coaches and staff then took fans around "The Met" for a tour of the facilities provided this season to the Alabama baseball team. After the tour of the stadium, fans were treated to a lunch provided by the Alabama Grandslammers, and were then encouraged to head to the concourse level to get posters and autographs from the team.
As the morning turned to afternoon, head coach Mitch Gaspard and the team introduced themselves to the fans in attendance and then began preparations for the game. Once fans were seated and warmups finished, the team took part in its intrasquad scrimmage.
By day's end, the Crimson team claimed a 7-5 victory over the Gray squad. The team will head back to Hoover tomorrow afternoon for a 2 p.m. intrasquad game, its final tune-up before the start of the regular season on Friday, Feb. 13. Alabama plays host to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in a three-game, weekend series with the season-opener scheduled for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch. The 2015 Crimson Tide baseball season at the Hoover Met is sponsored by Hibbett Sports.
