Alabama Cross Country earns USTFCCCA Honors

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - University of Alabama track and field/cross country junior Katelyn Greenleaf and sophomore Hannah Waggoner are two of 153 women in Division I who earned United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honors for the 2014 cross country season, the USTFCCCA announced recently. The Alabama men's and women's teams were recognized among the nation's top academically performing programs, earning Scholar Team status.
Individual honorees must have compiled a cumulative GPA or 3.25 or greater and must have finished as an All-American or among the 15 finishers (or 10 percent) in their regional meet. Greenleaf, a junior from St. Petersburg, Fla. (Northside Christian High School) has a 3.88 grade-point average in Nutrition at the Capstone while Waggoner, a sophomore from Murfreesboro, Tenn. (Oakland HS) boasts a 3.69 GPA in Mechanical Engineering. To qualify for the honor, both Greenleaf and Waggoner finished among the top 10 percent of competitors at the 2014 NCAA South Region meet in November.
The Crimson Tide women have a cumulative team GPA of 3.64 to earn team All-Academic honors. The Southeastern Conference (SEC) and the Big Ten Conference led the nation with 14 women's teams earning All-Academic Team honors. The SEC led the nation among women's conferences with 19 honorees, followed by both the Big Ten and the ACC with 17 each.
The Alabama men's team posted a cumulative GPA of 3.22 on the way to earning team All-Academic recognition. The SEC led the nation with 11 teams earning All-Academic honors, just ahead of the ACC which had 10 schools so honored.
