Women's Basketball Falls to Arkansas, 53-42

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The women's basketball team dropped Sunday afternoon's contest to the Arkansas Razorbacks by a final score of 53-42 inside Foster Auditorium. With the loss, the Crimson Tide falls to an even 12-12 on the season and 1-8 in Southeastern Conference play. The Razorbacks are now 13-8 overall with a 3-6 mark against conference foes.
Leading the offensive attack for Alabama was redshirt freshman Karyla Middlebrook, who dropped a team-high 11 points. Sophomore Ashley Williams turned in eight points and collected a game-best 12 rebounds.
The two teams went back and forth to start until Arkansas put in seven unanswered points to take a 13-6 lead with 12:09 to go in the period. Neither would score for the next six minutes until Williams hit a jumper to end the drought. The Razorbacks led by as many as 10 in the first and took a 24-16 into the locker room at the half.
Alabama pulled within five points twice early on in the second half, but Arkansas would push it back out to double digits again at the 15:51 mark. The Tide scored five straight later in the period to cut the Razorback lead to six, but Alabama was unable to close the gap and further.
For the game, the Tide was 31.9 percent (15-47) from the floor, while the Razorbacks hit 34.7 percent (17-49) of their attempts. The biggest difference was at the free throw line where Arkansas was 16 for 19 compared to Alabama's 10 for 17 and on the boards where the Razorbacks outrebounded the Tide, 42-31.
Alabama will have its second bye of the season this week before heading to Baton Rouge to take on the LSU Tigers on Sunday, Feb. 8. The game is slated to tip off at 4 p.m. CT and air live on the SEC Network.
