TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama junior Krystal Rivers and sophomore Kat Hutson were both named All-South Region, it was announced Tuesday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
This is Hutson's second accolade in as many seasons and Rivers' third, making Rivers the first three-time All-Region honoree in Alabama volleyball history. This is the third straight season in which the Crimson Tide has had multiple All-Region award winners. Prior to 2013, Alabama had never posted multiple All-Region honorees in a single season. Rivers and Hutson were also named All-SEC earlier this season.
Rivers finished the season with a team-leading 451 kills (4.18/set) and a .303 hitting percentage while finishing second on the team in both aces (25) and blocks (84). In conference play, she led all SEC players with 377.0 points while her 331 kills ranked second. Her .325 career hitting percentage currently ranks fourth in program history and her 1,443 career kills is sixth.
Hutson finished second on the team with 394 kills (3.72/set), earning SEC Offensive Player of the Week distinction twice during the month of November. In SEC play, she ranked third in points (291.5) and fourth in kills (257), making Alabama the only school with two players in the top five in both kills and points. Hutson is now the second player in program history to earn All-Region honors in her first two seasons, with Rivers being the first.
